NWYN – Storm King Art Centre in the Hudson Valley, NY

I recently took a whirlwind trip to New York City with three friends, and a final willingness to ‘be a tourist’ in the big apple. We drove. It’s an 8 hour trip, as the bird flies, but the bird doesn’t have to go through Toronto traffic, border crossings, construction delays, torrential downpours in the mountains, or Manhattan Traffic. Actually, we literally had to wait zero minutes at the border on the way there, in fact we were so confused by the lack of line up that we ended up making the border guard wait. It was on the way back that it was two plus hours. We left on a Thursday after work and arrived at our airbnb stay in Dumbo, Brooklyn in the early afternoon on Friday.

We smartly decided that we would save ourselves some money and sanity by stopping and staying in a motel on the way, after driving as long as we felt comfortable, and before reaching our first destination, Storm King.  This is a place that I had heard about before and tried to fit into previous trips to NYC. It is acres and acres of statues, by artists from all over the world, situated in amongst the gorgeous Hudson Valley. The weather was drizzly, and foggy, so the photos aren’t my best, and certainly not all encompassing (I probably captured about 30%?) but you can definitely get a sense of the vastness of such a massive outdoor art gallery.
