Bomb

Natalie Dee is so frequently topically relevant to me,  it kind of gives me the heeby jeebies.

Last week there was a suspicious package (2 suitcases) left outside the MTCC (Metro Toronto Convention Centre). There was also a suspicious vehicle left beside said package, with keys left in said vehicle. While I was slightly (minimally) worried that there actually was a bomb and I’d get glass blown into my eyes, I decided to risk it for an awesome ‘I-was-this-close-to-the-action’ shot.

Just a little bomb threat… no big deal.

Hollah, NY. Hollah, indeed.

Apparently the only people in NY who wear Birks are Canadians.

I fulfilled that stereotype.

So this city is pretty dope, I’d say.  Awesome graffiti.

In one day I’ve already explored Hipster Central of NY, gone shopping at Brooklyn Industries, fallen asleep on the NY Subway, eaten some world-famous Nathan’s Hot dogs and cheese fries, seen a Yankees vs Cyclones baseball game, ridden one of the oldest roller coasters in the states, seen a freakshow/burlesque show, walked along the boardwalk of Coney Island, and gotten so tired walking home from it all that I stopped having even the energy to listen to stories from my lovely host.

Slept EXTREMELY well, despite a group stoop-dwellers passionately discussing basketball until the late hours of the morn.

lullabye

If someone could please arrange for one of two things for me, I will be forever indebted to you:

either

a) have Jay Malinowski sing this song, or any other song he so chooses before I go to bed each night or

b) have Jay Malinowski be my boyfriend.

oh good lord.

Thanks. Let me know when this will happen, and we’ll figure out the whole, indebted thingy.

overload 2

Another day, another new experience with food and music.

I share:

QAGOS-Quinoa Avo Garlic Organic Swiss chard: pronounced 'KWAY-GOES'

My first time cooking quinoa, and NOT my first time coming up with a random word.

Soundtrack:

before – The harmonization and hand-clapping in this song make my arms tingle.

during – Banjo-tastic, which seemed appropriate for the hippy meal.

after – If you haven’t seen the video for this, and you like bowie, do it.  You might be blown away by the… well everything.

overload

…of posts and flavour.

So… this may or may not be my 4th post of the day.

But I couldn’t resist photographing the deliciousness I just created and consumed:

Yes, that IS egg-in-a-kale-mushroom-garlic-yam-basket! So clever you are!

I liked it so much, I made it again immediately after I was done so that I could have it for lunch tomorrow… but added peanut butter for a little extra… je ne sais what.

Soundtrack for the dinner:

before – spring sprung

during – hippity hoppity

after – tikety talkity

Raspnanabran

Thanks, rain day.

Instead of slopping around in giant piles of triple-mix and getting sand granules in my ear, this morning I made these:

Fresh face

… for my wall!

And by ‘fresh,’ I mean ‘terribly similar to painter’s tape green.’

underneath it all is 'my little pony purple'. the left is the terrible colour that made me cry. the right is the new 'spruce green' which was given to me in pity.

Despite the fact that I painted so impulsively, it feels good to be a part of the history of this apartment.  Last night I was noticing a long bump in the wall that is only about 3mm wide but about 8 feet long.  I think it’s because of excess paint on the outer rim of my paint roll.  I examined all the other bumps and crevices on the wall and thought about how some of them were hidden and some were exaggerated by my recent 3 coats of paint.
I think it’s kind of neat to live in places that have housed a lot of people.  Places that are in neighbourhoods that are notoriously cheap and/or transient, and that allow people a really comfortable resting place without having to relinquish their entire credit capability to the buyer’s market.
It’s fun to imagine who’s lived there before, why they chose such a location, and WHY they’d have the guts to choose my little pony purple as a colour to paint a whole hallway with.
I’ve added to the great list of ‘Why’s’ in this place, and it makes me feel at home.

This inspiration brings you this gem from Awkward Family Photos:
