The Spoon – this is the whole reason I even felt inspired to do this entry. I especially enjoy this poem.
I’m sorry that the poem is linked to so much other ridiculousness. But really. How often does a poem inspire a blog? NEVER, right? I’m so unbelievably original. I’m going to go enter myself into an originality contest for original originality. And also for modesty. And for non-sarcasm.
There’s been four before: Little Bites One, Two, Three & Four
Edition Five is about Crafts & Art.
Etsy – I’m sure most people have already heard of this website, but it is such a great artists community where you can buy and sell homemade art. I’m pretty sure when I have a job again, this site will be the death of my savings account. Favourite thing: can filter results to your local artists! Economic AND Ecological!
Karkovski - This one pulled me in from alphainventions.com. She also links to etsy.com and is evidently quite crafty. She speaks about ikea, but I think that her work is like a more skilled version of ikea toys and artwork. It’s also nice to find a blog where people talk about their kids and it doesn’t feell ike a letter home to grandma.
Hemp Jewellry – I`m so very excited to think about making things out of hemp again! This entry is so cute because the person actually used paint to illustrate the square knot. Most of the time they used photos and words, but I like this one the best. BUT I definitely disagree that you should buy your beads from Wal-Mart. Yuck. Wal-Mart = bad.
I am deeply saddened by what is happening in the Gaza Strip.
I have been trying to stay informed about it and these are some of the links to some videos and articles that have been informative for me. They are more in depth than news articles or news videos.
I will continue to update this post as more sources become available to me.
Debate on War Crimes - From BBC NEWS: “Professor Iain Scobbie of SOAS and Harvard law Professor Alan Dershowitz debate if war crimes have been committed during the Gaza conflict. “
The Case for War Crimes – From BBC NEWS: “Tim Whewell considers whether war crimes have been committed during the Gaza conflict. “
Wikipedia defines War Crime - “”violations of the laws or customs of war”, including but not limited to “murder, the ill-treatment or deportation of civilian residents of an occupied territory to slave labour camps”, “the murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war”, the killing of hostages, “the wanton destruction of cities, towns and villages, and any devastation not justified by military necessity”.
NYTimes Article that changed my paradigm – Jan 12th – “Israelis United on Gaza War as Censure Rises Abroad “ I can’t say that I agree with the position of this article, but it certainly helped me to think about this conflict from the eyes of Israelis.
A piece about media bias - this news source is linked to CNN, so I am hesitant to link to it. The following radio interview speaks about why the ‘bias’ is occurring.
Radio Interview - Sanchia Berg reports on the death toll in Gaza and Israeli spokesman Mark Regev discusses civilian casualities. Sanchia Berg does a very good job of heavily questioning the reasoning for the journalistic ban/limitation. Israel is letting some journalists in, but not others. Sanchia Berg is very obviously angry. This is really interesting.
I’m getting a little bit tired of claims that what is happening in Gaza is acceptable because other countries have done the same things in other wars. I’m sorry, but how old were you when you learned that it is not ok to jump off a bridge because other people do so? The innocent people need to stop being targeted. That’s it.
but now it’s time for the third edition of what can waste my time AND yours for the low low price of… um.. no price. Just click if you’re interested. Oh man. That was anti-climactic.
Bejewled – I am officially an addict. I saw this on the sidebar somewhere and I had flashbacks from first year university. Sitting at my non-ergonomic desk, in my old wooden chair with the decades-old scratchy fabric on it. My roomie and I sitting there playing games while our overdue papers sat waiting for some attention from us.
Fruit Leather – This site doesn’t take much time to read. It’s not that exciting. But it DOES give some kickass instructions on how to make pocket fruit. Considering how much fruit-to-go and other bars are, and considering how GROSS fruit-roll-ups are, this is a GREAT time-consuming task that I intend to complete in the next couple of weeks.
I Love You (x100) – At the risk of being a total corn-star, I have listed this one because it made me smile. I hope that people use it not only for their romantic partners, but also for their family members and friends. It’s a great little list of things that you can do to show you care.
How to Enjoy Paris for Free – All I can say is that this makes my desire to travel go through the roof (the sky?) Who knows. I like it. It gets my imaginatory juices flowing.
The Arrow of Time - This is a really neat idea. I had some friends when I was younger whose parents had a picture of each of them and their two brothers on the fridge EVERY year from kindergarten to the present. It was like seeing a little flash book of their lives. My mom does the same thing around Christmas, when she puts up all my Santa Claus pictures. It’s crazy to see.
FAcK. that link didn’t work for the photo. and i’m done with this for the day. i’ll update later with one of her lovely photos. but you can just go to her site.
When I was informed that someone clicked on thepicture in one of my former posts, I decided to look through their site again. I found the first of this week’s little bites:
Noah Kalina - Apparently some sort of youtube cult star. I have no idea. But I like his work. I especially fell in love with this shot. And I’ve always wanted someone to take a picture of me like this. There is just something incredibly alluring about the anonymity, despite the fact that it is an incredibly respectable nude shot. I love the lighting and the framing and the general sense of ethereal-ness. (word?)
Uke Hunt – Oh my. What a find. My righteous dude stumbled across this video, of Will Smith singing Men In Black with Stefan Raab playing the Ukelele. I loved it. It made me smile on the inside. It made me feel nostalgic of Fresh Prince Days… and it was all-in-all, a great find. So I looked up on the google, and came across this website. Cute.
Other Words for Said - Ever been caught in a conversation that goes something like this? :
Other person: ‘omigod you won’t believe what happend with me and my EX-best friend yesterday’
You: ‘oh yeah? tell me about it!’
Other Person: ‘Well she told me that ____ and I was like ‘_______,’ ‘and then she said ___, and then I said
_____, and then she said _______, and then I was like __________, then she was like _______’?
I’ve started to explore the internet a bit more since my main squeeze introduced me to stumbleupon.
I figure that if anyone is reading me, they should know the sites that I have fallen in love with.
I guess this will be a sort of weekly blogroll that I will update throughout the week.
Red Nose Studio – UNBELIEVABLE talent in carving and puppetry and photography. Truly stunning work.
One Word - What a great idea to get your mind in the mood for more writing. I visit it at least once a week. Sometimes I get anxious and check it too early and end up submitting two entries for one day.
Wesley Burt’s Drawing Samples - These came up randomly in my clicking in the morning and I’m SO happy. It’s refreshing to see real sketching done with pencils or charcoal or other mediums that actually show the brush strokes of the artist. It’s as though you get to experience and understand their proccess a little more. Really great work.
Jerusalem by Matisyahu – I can’t get a link to work to any youtube videos, but this song is worth looking up. It made me very happy.
< baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahah. ok. i put in some links to beautiful art. this is just plain internet stupidity. i like it and i’m not afraid to admit it.
I’m talkin’ full blown I’m experiencing delerium, headaches, stuffy nose, chest cough, sore throat, itchy eyes, I feel like I’ve been hit by a tanker kind of sick.
I’m so sick I’m not even going to fix that last sentence because I just want to get to watchin’ my videos…
and I’m watching A LOT today. so I’m going to post some of my favourites… the kind that make me feel okay about stayin’ at home, drinking orange juice while I blow my nose and sneeze and feel sorry for myself.
This first video called Caldonia Music nearly melted my heart. It’s from the movie “Love Me or Leave Me” (1955). The kid (Sugar Chile Robinson) has the kindest, warmest, most adorable eyes I’ve seen in a while. So cute. and MAN can he play the piano… it has to be him, right?
Okay and this one is exactly what I needed. What’s a better medicine than a lion hug? The news commentators are annoying, but it’s worth it.
aw yah. boyfriend brought home some carrot ginger soup. I gots me some energy for some more video watchin’
Feeling a little existential? Try this one on for size. But don’t start arguing with me about the difference between men and monkeys. I’ll throw my feces at you.
I watched a video that was very boring, but I DID learn that if you want to peel a potato really quickly, you just boil it whole with its skin on, and then put it in an ice bath for 5seconds, and then peel the skin off with your hands. I personally like the taste of potato skin, even in smashed potatoes, so this isn’t all that useful for me… but I’m sick… so I get to write about whatever I want.
