Two Milkshakes, One Straw.

Umm… yeah. I did.

Never thought I’d be the type that would. But I did:

Pretty cute, right?

Ok, OK!  Pretty barf-tastic, I know!

But it was hilariously, adorably fun when it happened, and I don’t regret it.

***post script***

Know what’s more embarrassing than two people drinking a milkshake from a single glass?

When you explain it the opposite way, and don’t even realize you’ve done so.

Back to the Future

I’ve become significantly more interested in a recent societal fascination with nostalgia and really appreciate it when artists work with and comment on this trend.  I was so happy to see that Amyofau linked to this incredible project that highlights the allure and mystique of retro photography.

I love old photos… Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future. ~ Irina Werning – Photographer

Her attention to detail in re-creating and re-capturing these moments from the past is phenomenal. She calls herself ‘obsessive’ but I think it’s admirable.

My favourites, in the order they appear on her website:

It’s-a Me!

Wario! I’m-a gonna win!

If you knew right away that the title of this post was from Mario Kart, then you’ve already had the fantasy of making Koopa Troopa Beach your reality.  You’ve thought about, and perfected your list of favourite stages (mine’s Moo Moo Farm, I pretty much always avoided the gophers), and the sound of the bananas being plopped onto the track still haunts you (omg, I think I just realized what I want my text message alert to be!).

ANYway,  Rémi Gaillard is my new personal hero:

Here we gooo!

Thanks, Luke. Your capacity to find awesomeness in books, nature, and on the interwebs will never stop making me smile and incessantly high-five.

Giving thanks for thanks

If you’re a regular reader, you know how much I love Allie’s thank you notes from thxthxthx.com

Sometimes I give my mom a really hard time about enforcing the use of the words ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’ I’m concerned that people (especially young impressionables) are being taught that just because you say these words, you’re showing that you are thankful or appreciative.  I think it takes more more than that. The expression of thanks is, in my opinion, useless unless that gratitude comes from a place of genuine appreciation.

Laura Trice gives a really short talk about the importance of saying thank you. One of her examples, a lady who gives her husband a list of things she’d like him to thank her for, might negate my previous point about thank you’s needing to be genuine, but I thank her for sharing it with us.

Thanks friends and strangers for reading my words and providing me with a reason to hold myself to a higher standard.

Dear Legs

Thank you for being strong enough to walk me the 4.5km home from work everyday.

You’re not quite strong enough to stand a Saturday of figure skating, lost-wallet searching, Twister-playing, Bob-Marley-Birthday-Tribute-dancing, AND missioning toward 3am nachos, without making it look like I’ve been punched in my hoo-ha multiple times on Monday when I walk through the office… but you’ll do.
